Cielo Sharkus is a PhD candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Cielo works with local community organizations and municipalities in Massachusetts to understand how knowledge systems shape the perception of risk and how individual and collaborative agency shapes adaptation to climate change. She has worked with state and federal agencies to examine how climate change impacts food, water, and energy systems in the Northeast United States. Cielo is a Switzer Fellow, a National Science Foundation trainee, a USDA Northeast Climate Hub Fellow, and serves on the National Climate Adaptation Science Center’s environmental justice and climate justice team.
